Standing in the middle of the road at Barnsdale and Northumberland Streets clear as my schedule for the week Retired cars with cold engines line the road Muted yellow glow coming from the windows of the townhouses across from my stoop Family’s heading straight to bed shutting off the evening news I pray that they won’t go out unless they need more food But when this all blows over what will they have left to lose The rains running late so it quickens it’s pace It chatters as it jumps down the gutter of my place It says “enjoy this night, a moment without violence And there’s calm beneath the fear, there’s music in the silence” I put out my cigarette in the rain Until the next show, save these words for that stage The wind ushers me inside as it brushes on my shoulder The only touch I’ve felt in weeks I know I’m a lucky one I’m inessential, I. Have a place to rest my head But I have another bed, waiting for me when it spreads You cannot bribe this, we are all equal in death The rains running late so it quickens it’s pace It chatters as it jumps down the gutter of my place It says “enjoy this night, a moment without violence And there’s calm beneath the fear, there’s music in the silence” Has it been 12 hours or 12 weeks Now’s already ancient, when now is everlasting How soon is later Everything means nothing when nothing lies ahead

Maynerd 03:51
Walking outside all alone, the city streets were so cold So you hope don’t mind that I entered your home I’m just looking for friends, and a place to keep warm And if you allow eat the crumbs from your floor But this world is so scary, the gods are so tall It sounds like an earthquake every time a pin falls And the moment you see me, you scream in my face It’s then that I learn I’m not welcome at all That’s when I run, I scurry Under the door, up the stairs down the hall And I’ll hide, but at night It’s time to play, and I’ll feast till the day brings the light So I bob and I weave beneath the humming ivory tower Dining on the scraps you left before they go sour And alone in the dark, I’ll bite a whole in your nest But I hear your feet strike the floor again That’s when I run, I scurry Under the door, up the stairs down the hall And I’ll hide, but at night It’s time to play, and I’ll feast till the day brings the light The light, the light Oh you’re so kind to leave me your bread I can’t resist temptation, I’ll go on ahead But the sky turns to pitch and I have no way out I fear my ends near so I don’t make a sound That’s when I see his face he’s come down from the sky He says he’ll keep me fed an he’s actually quite nice But I won’t take the safety net, if I’ll lose my flight So I’ll break out this box and I’ll run until day brings the light

I’m a talentless hack I wrote the songs that they wrote twenty years back I’m a talentless hack I use the same chords on every track My lyrics are cliche, though I’m writing every day I’m still a talentless hack All my songs are review I’ll rip off Lenny, Connor and Brand New (ew) All my songs are review Kevin, Dylan and the Mountain Goats too At shows no one will shed another tear or even buy another beer I'm a talentless hack I’m on the right track My words are honest there’s no harm in that I’m on the right track I’ve played three shows this month and none fell flat My friends know all my songs, at my shows this sing along I’m on the right track

Skylark 03:57
I had far too many mixed drinks last night So I’m calling in sick again And I’m sprawled out on my bedsheets With Banker’s Club in my veins And I’m wondering when this will end Cus my body can’t take much more But one more time before I’m on the mend I’m gonna take a walk to the liquor store What I am, I know not— A skylark with a broken wing My passion sinks to the bottom In this ocean of blind numbing And I wish that I had Shelley’s pen But I’ve got Hemingway’s vice And I’d rather disappear forever Than be honest with myself about my flaws Id like to smash these Budweiser bottles Break them on my basement door In the shards of their remains I can’t see what Ive been looking for What is I know not— But I know it ain’t where I thought The bottom of the bottle is bare and cold, I know, I’ve been there a lot So it’s time that I look somewhere else, even if it doesn’t stop the rot It’s one less thing to feel sorry for, it’s one less way to feel so caught
